I can't stop thinking about how communities cope with such devastating losses when senseless acts of violence occur. Laura Leigh Smith Darley’s murder really hit hard in Quincy, and I’m sure Live Oak residents are shaken up as well after the chase that ended the life of the "ASSASSIN." It’s just incredibly tragic—not only did we lose Laura Leigh, but other families are mourning as well. I’ve been following the details, and one aspect that really stands out to me is the response time of local law enforcement during the chase. Reports say it was roughly 12 hours from the time of the attack to the confrontation with SWAT. I can't imagine the pressure and urgency they must have felt through that whole ordeal, especially when one of their own was injured during the pursuit. A friend of mine who works in law enforcement mentioned how taxing these situations are on all involved—physically, emotionally, and mentally. My heart goes out to all the families affected by this tragedy. Let’s not forget to also support our first responders who stepped into harm's way to bring an end to this terrifying sequence of events. I hope that with time, healing will find its way to all.
