I’ve been following Deputy Basil Powell’s case, and something that keeps haunting me is the thought of his 5-year-old daughter being there when this horrific event took place. It’s beyond comprehension to imagine what this little girl experienced and how it will shape her future. She didn’t just lose her dad that day; she faced an unthinkable trauma that no child should ever endure. I hope that she has a strong network of support around her to help process this tragedy. I can’t even begin to fathom the pain Deputy Powell’s loved ones are going through, and my heart goes out to them. It's comforting to see the community come together for the vigil and it serves as a reminder that Powell was surrounded by people who cared deeply for him.
