I’ve been thinking a lot about the events that unfolded near the UIC-Halsted station, and it just breaks my spirit to see a community member like John Flemister lost in such a tragic way. It’s evident from the vigil and the words of his family that he was well-loved and respected. I can't help but wonder about the impact of his loss on his loved ones. His niece's words really struck a chord with me, especially knowing the significant role he played in their lives. The fact that he helped raise children within his family shows such a selfless side of him. It makes me think about what the community has lost beyond the headlines—those everyday acts of kindness and support that often go unnoticed until they’re gone. The altercation's circumstances are still so difficult to comprehend. It's tough to understand how a disagreement could lead to something so irreversible. My thoughts and prayers are with the Flemister family and everyone affected by this tragedy. I hope they find comfort in each other and in remembering the positive impact John had on all their lives.

Attended the vigil for John Flemister last night and was truly moved by the outpouring of love and support from the community. Seeing so many people come together to celebrate his life really highlighted the impact he had on those around him. His niece's words about John being such a caring figure in their family—raising not only his sister’s kids but also his niece’s—paint a picture of a man who put family first. It’s devastating to think that someone so dedicated could be taken away in such a tragic way. I know there’s a lot of debate on what really happened that day and the charges involved, but I hope we can all remember John for the good he did in his life. My heart goes out to his family and all those who knew and loved him.
