I’ve been thinking a lot about the effect this tragedy must be having on the community in Roanoke, especially in such a close-knit area. I can't even imagine the shock waves this has sent through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints congregation in Huntington. It sounds like Richard was a respected member of the congregation, and losing him so suddenly and in such a violent way must be incredibly difficult for everyone who knew him. I read that the family is asking for donations to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in his memory, and I think it’s a beautiful way to honor Richard’s legacy, especially given his service as a Vietnam War veteran. This foundation does so much to support veterans and first responders, which seems like a fitting tribute to someone who dedicated part of his life to serving his country. My thoughts are with the loved ones left to pick up the pieces after this terrible incident. It’s just so sad for everyone impacted.
