Has anyone else come across the involvement of the Chicago City Railway Company in the aftermath of the Car Barn Bandits' crimes? It’s truly tragic how James B. Johnson, while just trying to do his job, ended up in the middle of such a horrifying situation. It makes me wonder about the protocols or the kind of security measures that were in place back then—or perhaps the glaring lack thereof.
Given how public transit workers like Johnson and his colleagues were exposed to such dangers, did this incident lead to any significant changes in how the company operated? Were there any efforts to better protect employees or strengthen security at their facilities after such a loss?
This case makes me think about the struggles the families must have faced, knowing their loved ones were lost to senseless violence. Hoping for some insightful discussion to learn more about the era's response to these kinds of events.
