I've been thinking a lot about Nancy Christine Rhinehart and how terrifying it must have been for her and her family back in 1968. Gaffney was such a small town, and to have something so violent and horrific happen there, it must have shaken the entire community. I can't even begin to imagine the fear and confusion that would have gripped the town, especially with someone like the 'Gaffney Strangler' on the loose. It's such a terrible tragedy that Nancy, who was just 14, had her life cut short in such a brutal way. I keep wondering what could make someone go down such an evil path like Lee Roy Martin did. He manipulated the community's fear, taunting them with anonymous phone calls, which only worsened the panic. Nancy and the other victims deserved so much better, and it's a small relief that Martin was caught before he could cause any more harm. My heart really goes out to Nancy's family and friends. Living with such a devastating loss must be unbearable. I hope that sharing in these forums can, in some way, help keep Nancy's memory alive and perhaps offer her loved ones a bit of comfort in knowing that we are all remembering her and seeking justice in our own ways.
