Iva Cheetham and her husband Kenneth were shot and killed while on a road trip through Montana. The couple, from Washington state, were last known to be near Lake Inez in the Swan Valley north of Missoula around the first of July 1991. Their van was found abandoned August 5, 1991, at the end of a new logging road; a Hitachi VM-5200A video camera and its case were missing from the vehicle. On September 11, 1991, the Cheethams’ bodies were located about two miles south of the van site and both had died from gunshot wounds.
The Missoula County Sheriff’s Office identified persons of interest early on but made no arrests and the case went cold. In 2019 a Cold Case Unit and two retired federal agents began re-examining the evidence with hopes that DNA advances or public tips might produce leads. The stolen camera has not been recovered and no one has been charged.
If anyone knew the Cheethams or was in the Swan Valley that summer, can you share what you remember?
