I recently came across information on the tragic case of Reginald Keith Joyner, part of the string of Hampton Roads area murders in the late 80s and early 90s. It's so disturbing how Reginald and many other victims seemingly vanished after being in places they felt secure, like the LGBTQ+ friendly spots in Norfolk. These were spaces where they could be themselves, and yet, they ended up being the sites where they were last seen alive. What struck me the most is how Reginald’s disappearance didn’t just affect his family and friends but sent ripples through the entire community. This sense of vulnerability and fear must have been unimaginable for those who frequented these places. Who could they trust when such horrific events were happening right in their midst? Elton Manning Jackson being tied to these cases, including Reginald's, makes me wonder about the gaps left in the investigation at the time. Was there enough done to ensure these victims, who were loved just as much as anyone else, got the justice they deserved? It underlines the critical importance of continued efforts to protect marginalized groups and ensure thorough, compassionate investigations.
