I just finished reading about the horrible events surrounding Betty Jo Grunzweig's murder, and I'm struck by the courage she must have shown. The revelation that skin from Charles Jackson was found under her fingernails suggests she fought back against her attacker. I can only imagine how terrifying that moment must have been. It’s a bit of solace, though, knowing she didn’t go without a fight and that this clue eventually led to Jackson's identification. I hope her family found some peace in seeing justice served, even if it came many years later. I wish the advances in DNA technology came sooner, but it’s incredible how they finally pieced everything together. Betty Jo deserved so much more, and I hope her loved ones know her bravery helped bring a serial killer to justice.

Knowing that this evidence was crucial in bringing her killer, Charles Jackson, to light is some small solace, but it's still gut-wrenching.
