Has anyone else looked into the story of Rosine Van Jassand? It's so chilling how Holmes kept her isolated in his store, basically imprisoning her with threats. I can't even imagine the fear she must have felt being cut off from the world with no one to turn to. There’s such a stark contrast between the bustling streets of Chicago outside and the darkness she was trapped in on the inside. It’s infuriating that there wasn’t even an investigation into her disappearance. It's like she just vanished, and nobody noticed. This shows how Holmes was able to spin his web of manipulation and control so effectively. Just thinking about the fact that she worked there, probably smiling at customers, while living in constant fear... it’s really unsettling. My heart goes out to her family. It’s stories like these that make me question how many voices were silenced during that era without anyone realizing it.
