I recently came across an unsettling detail in William Ray Lawrence's case that has been haunting me since. It's the letter he sent to his father postmarked June 8, 1973, saying he was looking for work in Austin. This letter is a sad reminder of the cruel manipulation Dean Corll and his accomplices used on their victims. It makes me wonder about the psychological state William must have been in when he wrote it. Was he coerced or already under Corll’s spell? The idea that William might have held onto some sliver of hope or tried to mask his true circumstances is just bone-chilling. The manipulative control these criminals had over their victims shows a deeply disturbing level of depravity. It breaks my heart to consider what William and other boys endured at the hands of Corll, Brooks, and Henley. My thoughts go out to William’s family, who had to endure the unimaginable pain of first thinking he was alive and safe, only to later discover the horrifying truth. If anyone knows more about the circumstances surrounding this letter or any theories about how Corll exploited his victims, I would be interested to hear your thoughts.

I’ve been following the case of William Ray Lawrence, and I can't stop thinking about how terrifying it must have been for those young boys, including William, to encounter Dean Corll and his accomplices. It's unsettling to consider how trust can be exploited, and I wonder how Corll could manipulate his way into the lives of these kids, enticing them with promises of fun like fishing trips. William calling his dad and saying he’d be back later must have given his family some peace, however brief. The letter from June 8 makes my heart ache; it’s as if he wanted to assure his dad that he was safe, seeking work and planning to return. It’s so hard to fathom the emotions his family went through, holding onto that hope, only to be met with such devastating news. It’s a poignant reminder of the vulnerability of our loved ones and the importance of staying vigilant for their safety. Hugging my young ones a little tighter today.
