I've been following the discussions about Mark Helmig, and one aspect that continues to haunt me is the role of William "Freight Train" Guatney. It just chills me how someone with such a violent history could slip through the cracks so easily and continue to evade justice. What's particularly troubling is how he was never formally charged, despite being linked to multiple cases. Imagine the anguish Mark's family must feel knowing someone with such a dangerous past was roaming freely around their community. It makes you wonder how many potential warnings were missed or overlooked. The lack of hard evidence must be infuriating not only for those directly affected by Mark’s loss but also for other families who might have encountered similar tragic situations. It really sheds light on the systemic failures of the time, and unfortunately, not much has changed today. My thoughts go out to Mark's loved ones, who deserve closure after all these years. What are your thoughts on handling cases with such elusive suspects? Seems like there's still a lot to learn from Mark's case.
