Stephanie Kirk, 35, of Charlestown, Indiana, disappeared after being last seen at the Uptown Bar in New Albany on March 25, 2012. Her family reported her missing and a search followed.
On April 27, 2012, her remains were found buried in the backyard of a New Albany home belonging to William Clyde Gibson. Gibson later told investigators that after a day of taking drugs and sexual activity, an argument over pills led him to rape and strangle Kirk; an autopsy confirmed strangulation and a broken back. Gibson had already been linked to another death when Christine Whitis’s body was discovered in his garage on April 19, 2012.
Gibson was charged in May 2012 with Kirk’s murder. He pleaded guilty just before his June 2014 trial, waiving a jury for sentencing. In August 2014 a judge sentenced him to death for Kirk’s murder. Did anyone who knew Stephanie notice her missing after March 25, 2012, or have information about her movements that day?
