I've been thinking a lot about the impact that PTSD must have had on the families of the victims in the Gaynor case, especially for Joyce L. Dickerson-Peay's loved ones. Living in constant fear, knowing someone as dangerous as Gaynor was out there—the amount of stress and trauma they faced must have been enormous. I can't even begin to imagine the pain they went through when Joyce was taken from them in such a violent manner. It's a grim reminder of why community support is crucial for these families. They need the space to grieve, process, and heal without the shadow of fear hanging over them. Thank goodness Gaynor was caught, but we need to do better to support families in processing such traumatic losses. I hope more resources are being directed towards helping the families put their lives back together.
