I've been researching the tragic story of Alphonse Manning Jr. and Toni Schwenn, and something that's been on my mind is the emotional toll these events must have taken on their families and friends. I can't even begin to imagine how devastating it must have been to lose loved ones in such a horrific and senseless manner. Especially knowing that Alphonse and Toni were targeted solely because of who they chose to love is truly unsettling. It's a reminder of how deep-seated hatred can tear apart lives. Their deaths in that mall parking lot were not just an attack on them, but also on the values of love and acceptance that we strive to uphold as a society. The fact that Franklin targeted them because of their relationship is a chilling reminder of the racism that still persists in different forms today. I hope that sharing their story serves not only as a tribute to their lives but also as a wake-up call for how much work there is still to be done in eradicating hatred and violence based on race. I think it's important for us to keep discussing and unearthing these stories so they are never forgotten. Sending thoughts of comfort and healing to the families, friends, and everyone else who has been affected by this tragedy.
