I’ve been following the tragic case of Steven Crockett and can't help but think about the community impact during that time. Kankakee is a relatively small town, and in 1982, the news must have been incredibly chilling for residents. It’s hard to imagine the fear and uncertainty that must have rippled through the area as more details came to light about Eyler’s crimes. It must have felt so personal to everyone there, especially when Steven, just 19, was taken so violently. The support that community members can offer each other is crucial, especially in times of such unimaginable loss. Did any locals from that era come forward with any accounts of the town’s reaction when they learned what happened to Steven? How did community support shape the families' ways of coping back then, and does anyone know if there were particular memorials or tributes that honored Steven and other victims in the years after? It’s such a testament to their lives and memories that these conversations continue decades later, acknowledging what these young men went through and bringing their stories to light.
