I recently came across the case of Danny King while doing some reading on unsolved crimes from the 80s, and it's just so unsettling how many lives were lost due to ignorance and hate. Danny was one of the victims of Donald Dufour, who preyed on gay men. It's infuriating and tragic that this community was so vulnerable and often ignored by society and authorities back then. There aren't a lot of details about Danny's murder specifically, which makes his story feel even more silenced. It's a constant reminder of the risks LGBTQ+ individuals faced simply for living their lives. Danny, like so many others, deserved to be safe and respected. His memory, and the outrage over the injustices faced by him and other victims, should inspire ongoing support for those still facing discrimination and violence today. I'm thinking of all the families and communities affected by Dufour's actions and hope that sharing Danny's story shines a light on the necessity for continued advocacy and protection for vulnerable communities.
