I’ve been diving deep into the details of Ronald Dominique’s horrible reign of terror, and Angel Mejia's story really struck a chord with me. It’s so tragic to think about how vulnerable Angel must have been when he crossed paths with Dominique. The promise of money or shelter is such a cruel lure, especially for someone potentially in a difficult situation. It pains me to imagine the trust Angel might have placed in Dominique, only to be met with such a horrific fate. I can’t help but think about Angel’s family and friends who have had to live with this loss for over two decades now. There’s a small comfort in knowing that Dominique won’t walk free again and that he’s been held accountable for his actions. But that doesn’t erase the suffering of those left behind. For anyone who knew Angel, I hope there’s some peace in the fact that his story, like those of the other victims, continues to be shared and remembered as we collectively search for answers and justice for all victims of such senseless acts.

Has anyone else been thinking about the courage it must have taken for Angel Mejia and the other victims to trust a complete stranger like Ronald Dominique, especially during such a vulnerable time in their lives? I've been reading a bit more about the case lately, and it's just so disturbing how someone can use another person's need for help against them. What gets to me is how Dominique seemed like he was offering a lifeline, and instead, it was the complete opposite. I can't imagine the betrayal and fear they must have felt in those final moments. My heart goes out to Angel's family and friends who have had to grapple with the senselessness of it all. The justice system caught up with Dominique, but it can't erase the pain of those who lost someone to his horrific acts.
