I was reading through some discussions about the Jeffrey Dahmer case and kept coming back to the story of Ernest Miller. It's deeply upsetting to think about how the system failed Ernest and others like him. As a young African American man, the societal neglect and prejudice they often face surely made him more vulnerable. It's infuriating to consider that biases and stereotypes can play a role in which cases receive attention and urgency. Ernest had his whole life ahead of him, with dreams and aspirations just like anyone else. I can't help but wonder how many warning signs were missed and how different things might have been with more proactive intervention. My heart goes out to Ernest's family and loved ones who had to endure not only the loss but also the public nature of the trial and its aftermath. Let’s take this as a reminder to amplify marginalized voices and never overlook the ones society tends to forget.
