Did anyone else notice the tragic irony in the way Evandrey Harris and the other victims were let down by the very systems meant to protect them? It’s just so difficult to comprehend how people in vulnerable circumstances, like Evandrey, seemed invisible until it was too late. The streets of Englewood became a hunting ground for Crawford, and it makes me wonder about the kind of support and outreach we’re providing to at-risk communities even today. There are lessons to be learned from these tragedies, and I hope it prompts more proactive efforts to prevent future horrors. My heart goes out to Evandrey’s family and loved ones, who had to endure such unimaginable loss. They deserved so much more from the world around them.
