Just stumbled upon some more details about the infamous Juan Vallejo Corona case that left me deep in thought. I can't stop thinking about how Mark Beverly Shields, a man who served our country in WWII, ended up as one of Corona's victims. It’s chilling to realize that a veteran, someone who had likely seen the worst life could throw during the war, would come home only to face such an unimaginable and tragic end. Has anyone else thought about how these laborers, like Shields, were overlooked and vulnerable? It's gut-wrenching to think that these men were working hard, dealing with the challenges of their own lives, and yet fell prey to such evil. I hope discussions like these can help remind us to look out for those who might be marginalized or forgotten. My heart goes out to Shields’ family and all the families affected by this tragedy. Would love to hear others' thoughts or insights on what the aftermath was like for the families involved.
