I recently came across the case of Juan Vallejo Corona and was struck by the story of Warren Jerome Kelley, one of the victims. Kelley, like many of the others, was a migrant worker just trying to make a living when he met such a tragic fate. It’s so haunting to think about how he was found in that peach orchard—simply going about his day-to-day life, possibly never knowing the danger he was in. The thing that really stays with me is thinking about Kelley's loved ones, if he had any who knew or worried about him. The era, the situation, and his transient life might have made it hard for him to stay in touch. It's possible his family didn’t have closure for quite some time, if at all. Can you imagine the devastating impact that would have on those waiting to hear from a traveling family member who never checks in? It’s so important to remember the humanity of each victim amid the horror of it all. Every name on that list represents an entire life, not just a number in a line of senseless murders. My heart goes out to anyone who knew these victims, like Kelley, and I hope discussions like this one can at least honor their memories.
