I’ve been thinking a lot about how Wanda's case was initially thought to be unrelated to the other Tamiami Trail murders. It’s understandable that investigators were hesitant because her method of death was different. It must have been a confusing and painful time for her family as they awaited more information. I can’t imagine the additional layer of agony they went through, not just grieving her loss, but also being unsure about whether justice would come for her. It seems that in cases like these, where there are so many moving parts and the media is often involved, families must contend with endless uncertainties. My heart goes out to them, and I hope that, despite the tragic circumstances, knowing Conde was caught brings them some measure of relief. Does anyone know if her family has publicly shared anything in recent years about how they’ve coped or if they’ve been involved in awareness or support movements?
Hi everyone,
I've been following the Tamiami Trail Strangler case, and something that really struck me was the deviation in how Wanda Cook Crawford was murdered compared to the other victims. Most of them were strangled, but she was reportedly asphyxiated. It makes me wonder what might have been going through Conde's mind when he killed her. Was this a sudden change in his pattern, or was there something specific about Wanda that led him to attack her differently?
It's so distressing to think about the terror and confusion these victims must have felt, and my heart truly goes out to their families. They lived with so much uncertainty and fear during that time. I'm hoping for justice and peace for all involved. If anyone has more insights or theories about why her case deviated, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Stay safe, everyone.
I’ve been following the Wanda Cook Crawford case on and off, and I’m still struck by how the investigators nearly dismissed her murder as unrelated. It must have been such an especially confusing time for her loved ones, grappling not only with their grief but also the uncertainty surrounding her death at the time. Changing from Conde’s usual method of strangulation to asphyxiation made an already complex investigation even more challenging.
I can only imagine the frustration and helplessness felt by her family during those weeks. It’s chilling to think that the change in his MO almost allowed Conde to slip by unnoticed longer than he already had. Cases like these underscore how important it is for investigators to remain open to possibilities and not become overly fixated on patterns.
Really hoping Wanda's family has found some semblance of peace in the years since.
