The fact that Todd and Mark couldn’t escape once inside is absolutely terrifying. I can’t imagine the fear those poor boys experienced. It’s also baffling that a single modification like that didn't raise any suspicions earlier. Thinking about Todd’s family just breaks my heart – no parent should ever have to endure such a devastating tragedy. My thoughts are with all those affected by Carr’s horrific actions.
Has anyone else thought about the way hitchhiking plays a role in cases like Todd Payton's? It’s chilling to learn that 11-year-olds were even hitchhiking to begin with, albeit more common back then. I can't stop thinking about how vulnerable Todd and Mark must have felt once they realized they were trapped. It was a different time, and yet, it's a reminder of how important it is to keep kids safe and aware of dangers, even today. My heart goes out to their families, who probably never imagined such a day would end in such tragedy. These kinds of cases make you hold your own kids a little bit tighter.
