Hey everyone,
I’ve been following Mary Frances Bennett's case for a while, and I'm really curious about the role of DNA in cold cases like hers. It’s astonishing how advances in forensic technology have changed the landscape of investigations. In Mary’s case, it took decades for DNA evidence to finally point towards David Carpenter. I can’t imagine the patience and dedication required from the investigators and Mary’s family all those years.
Does anyone know how common it is for DNA to be the breakthrough in such long-cold cases? It seems like such an important tool, but I wonder about its limitations too, especially back in the '70s and '80s. For Mary’s family, I bet it was a bittersweet moment; relief in knowing what happened, but also reopening old wounds. What are your thoughts on the impact this must have had on them and similar families?
