I recently stumbled across Laura Showalter's tragic case, and something that's been bothering me is how differently things might have turned out if law enforcement handled Carignan's confession properly. Considering the magnitude of the crime and the brutal way Laura’s life was cut short, it’s disheartening to see justice slip away due to technicalities. I can't help but think about Laura’s family and the pain they must have felt, watching the justice system falter at such a critical moment. It’s terrifying how Carignan was able to continue his violent spree for so many years afterward. I hope that by sharing these stories, we can continue discussions on ensuring airtight police procedures, so a heartbreaking mistake like this one isn't repeated in future cases. Love and strength to Laura’s loved ones—she surely didn’t deserve this.
