I recently stumbled upon this case and it has really stuck with me, especially considering the family dynamic involved. As a parent, it’s unimaginable to think about what Judy Barton must have gone through, being so close to bringing a new life into the world and then facing such terror. The fact that she was eight months pregnant at the time of the murders just adds another layer of loss to this tragedy. It’s a poignant reminder of how random and senseless violence can shatter lives in an instant. The support she could have provided to her unborn child was cruelly taken away along with that child’s potential future. I'm in awe of the strength it must have taken for investigators and other family members to pursue justice through such personal and communal sorrow. The Briley gang's ruthless spree devastated so many families in Richmond, but the loss of Judy, her partner, and her young son is particularly wrenching. My heart goes out to their surviving family members, who had to reconstruct their lives in the aftermath. Does anyone have information about how the community rallied around surviving relatives during this time, or any memorials they may have held? It'd be heartening to know more about the support they received.
