Hi everyone, I've been thinking a lot about the impact this case must have had on the local Athens community back in 1987. Can you imagine being the neighbors of Ann, Sally, and Helen, or even just someone living nearby? Hearing about such a brutal crime occurring right in your neighborhood must've been terrifying. I read somewhere that the neighborhood was quite close-knit, which makes these losses even more profound. It's difficult enough to process a loss, but when it's compounded by such violence and the age of the perpetrator... it must create a complex mix of emotions among the townsfolk. Did anyone here have family or friends in the area at the time? How did the community come together to heal and support each other through such a tough time? My heart goes out to the friends and families of the victims. They’ve had to carry this with them all these years. If any locals have insights on the community's response back then, I’d be interested to know. ?
