It's been years since Amanda's tragic death, and I can't stop thinking about the details surrounding her murder. What really gets me is the fact that Jorge Avila-Torrez lived just down the hall from her. I can't imagine the false sense of security Amanda must have felt, living and working among her fellow service members—people she likely considered her extended family. It's terrifying to think that someone you consider "one of your own" could be capable of such horror. Given that the cause of death remained undetermined initially, I wonder how frustrating and painful it must have been for Amanda's loved ones, waiting for answers that seemed so slow to come. The entire situation must have been filled with disbelief and anguish. It's a chilling reminder to all of us that safety isn't always guaranteed, even in environments that should be secure. I'm curious if anyone knows more about the military's protocol following such an incident. Did they put measures in place to prevent something like this from happening again? I hope Amanda's story compels the Navy to ensure better protection and support for all service members in her memory. Just my thoughts.
