Has anyone else looked into the timeline of Herbert Arnold's activities leading up to the tragic deaths of Ruth and Carol Burke? I've been going through old news articles and am struck by how his violent tendencies weren't flagged earlier. It's so hard to learn that Arnold not only committed these atrocious acts but was able to live freely and effectively dodge justice for so long afterward. My heart goes out to Ruth and Carol's remaining family members, who must carry the burden of such a senseless loss. It makes me wonder how many warning signs might have been missed back then in the 60s and wish more could have been done to prevent such tragedies. If anyone has insight into the procedures of tracking offenders back then or thoughts on improvements over the decades, I'd love to hear from you!

I’ve been following the tragic case of Ruth and Carol Burke, and one thing that's been weighing heavily on my mind is how the justice system failed them initially. It's deeply unsettling to think about how Herbert Arnold, despite his violent history, was allowed to live a seemingly normal life after committing such heinous crimes against Ruth and her daughter. They deserved justice from the start, and it's heartbreaking to realize how long it took before Arnold was finally held accountable for any of his crimes. The pain their family must have endured, knowing the person responsible wasn't immediately brought to justice, is unimaginable. It raises important questions about how we evaluate an individual's competency to stand trial and how we can prevent such lapses in the future. My thoughts are with Ruth and Carol's family, who have had to endure decades of unresolved grief and unanswered questions.
