I recently came across the case of Joan Hayes and the "Angel of Death" nurse, Richard Angelo. Just thinking about how Joan and other patients at Good Samaritan Hospital were in such a vulnerable state during their stay makes me so uneasy. These patients came to the hospital seeking care and healing, but instead faced unimaginable danger from someone entrusted to protect them.
I feel so deeply for Joan’s family, knowing that they went through such a shocking and painful trial, only to find that the person responsible was acquitted in her case. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, especially when it seems like justice wasn't fully served for her. Even though Angelo is behind bars, the fact that he’ll be eligible for parole in 2049 is unnerving. It's a chilling reminder of how fragile life can be and how trust in the medical community can be both a beacon of hope and a source of betrayal.
Sending thoughts to those who continue to live with the consequences of his actions, and hoping they find some form of peace despite this troubling chapter in their lives.
