Hey everyone,
I've been following the discussion about John Wesley Hardin and couldn't help but think about the role his upbringing might have played in his life of crime. Being born into a world with little law enforcement and plenty of chaos, it seems like violence was almost an inevitability for some in the Old West. I read that Hardin claimed his father was a Methodist preacher, yet somehow, he ended up on such a dark path. It's hard not to wonder how much of his childhood environment contributed to his later actions.
While there's no excusing his violent history, it does make you think about the complexities behind each person's story. I think it’s also important to remember that no matter how notorious someone is, their family and others around them have to deal with the aftermath too. His life was certainly a whirlwind of lawlessness, but I do feel for those who might have been close to him, seeing what he became.
What are others' thoughts on how upbringing influences personal choices, especially in such turbulent times?
