Hey everyone,
I've been doing a bit of research into some historical cases, and I came across the tragic story of Officer William Cluff Schultz. What's been sticking with me is how often we discuss intentional violence in law enforcement, but here we have a heartbreaking example of the everyday risks officers face from unexpected angles. An accidental discharge from his own weapon – it's just so devastating to think how quickly things can change. I can't imagine the impact this had on his family and department back in 1904. Even though it wasn’t a crime per se, the loss is just as profound.
Does anyone know if there were any changes in police protocols or equipment safety after cases like this back then? I’m curious about how departments learned and evolved from such incidents over the years. Any info would be appreciated!
