I recently came across the tragic case of the Haggard family, and it's just been on my mind. Honestly, what strikes me the most is how the community of Vernon, Texas must have felt back in 1929. Imagine waking up to news like that during the holiday season. The fact that Altie was only 14 and had her whole life ahead of her, it just doesn't sit right with me. People often overlook how deep the scars of such events can run in a small community. I can only hope there was some form of support for the neighbors and friends who knew them, as well as efforts to address mental health challenges even back then. It just reminds me how important it is for communities to come together in the face of such tragedies.
