Has anyone else looked into the connection between Shane and Sally's case and the broader "Satanic Panic" trend of the 1980s? It's baffling to me how much that era influenced public perception, and I can't help but wonder if it impacted the investigation in Shane and Sally's tragic deaths. I mean, the rumors about them being involved in a cult might have stirred a frenzy that diverted attention from actual leads. Imagine being their families, grappling not only with the loss but also with this overlay of sensationalism. It's so frustrating that after all these years, and even naming Gilbreath as a person of interest, there's still no closure for their loved ones. It's a reminder of how much misinformation can harm real cases and the people connected to them. I really hope justice is served one day. Any thoughts on how that cultural backdrop might have played into this?
Hey everyone,
I've been reading up on the Shane Stewart and Sally McNelly case, and can't shake off the eerie detail about the rumors of their involvement with a Satanic cult. It's unsettling to think about how the Satanic Panic of the '80s might have clouded the investigation or led it astray. It makes me wonder if investigators put too much emphasis on these sensational rumors instead of sticking to other avenues they could have explored.
Were any other teenagers at that time reported missing or harmed under similar circumstances in the area? Might they have been linked to Shane and Sally in some way that wasn't initially apparent because of the panic-driven tunnel vision? Updates have been scarce, and I can't help but feel for their families who are still waiting for answers decades later. Does anyone know if there's been any new info or theories about other possible suspects beyond John Cyrus Gilbreath?
Hoping this case sees justice someday. It’s important we keep talking about it so Shane and Sally are not forgotten.
Thanks for listening.
