I've been revisiting the Luby's shooting and reading about the victims, and I came across the story of James Walter Welsh. I can't stop thinking about the impact on his family and friends. Being one of 23 lives lost that day makes each loss feel almost incomprehensible. From what I've read, James was a WWII Air Force veteran and seemed like someone who had lived through so much, only for his life to end in such a violent way. It's hard to imagine how devastating it must have been for those who knew him to lose someone they treasured like that. That tragic day must have left a hole in the Killeen community too. I remember reading about how communities rally together in the wake of such tragedies, and it seems like this was one of those times where love and support formed a path to healing. Does anyone know if there have been any recent memorials or tributes dedicated to James or the other victims? It feels important that we continue to honor their memories and remember the voices that were silenced too soon. ?
