I've been following the case of Gregorio Ramirez and the subsequent crimes committed by Franklin DeWayne Alix, and one aspect that really struck me is how Alix managed to carry out these attacks so frequently at apartment complexes. It raises so many questions about safety measures and surveillance at these places during the late '90s.
It's gut-wrenching to think that people, like Gregorio, were just going about their day, perhaps thinking about getting home after a long day, or planning their weekend, only to be attacked in what should be a safe environment. I can only imagine the shock and fear that must have gripped those communities during that time.
Also, I'm curious if anyone from Houston remembers any changes that were implemented in apartment complexes regarding security and surveillance after this crime spree? Hoping for more awareness and preventative measures to protect residents and avert anything similar from happening again. My thoughts are with Gregorio's family and all of Alix's other victims and their loved ones, who had to endure such unjust and devastating losses.
I’ve been following the case of Gregorio Ramirez for a while now, and it’s kept me thinking about how apartment complexes were such a common place for these crimes. It’s always made me uneasy knowing that such violence can occur in areas that should be safe. The fact that Alix started his spree here is terrifying. How many times have we walked through a parking lot late at night, thinking nothing of it? It’s chilling. My heart goes out to Gregorio's family—his life was taken so senselessly. It’s frustrating to think how someone’s entire world can change in a moment’s notice. I hope that the Ramirez family has found some peace, even as they remember Gregorio and what was taken from them.
