I’ve been thinking a lot about the immense amount of pressure that police officers face every single day while on duty, especially after reading about Officer Craig Lamont Shaw’s tragic death back in 2010. I can’t even begin to imagine the stress and split-second decision-making that’s involved when responding to a shooting call like the one he responded to. It’s crucial to remember that these officers put their lives on the line to protect their communities, and sometimes, like in Officer Shaw’s case, that sacrifice is the ultimate one. It's important for all of us to acknowledge the gravity of their work and the heavy burdens that come with it. I find it heartening to know that the Lancaster community has something like the Fallen Heroes Memorial to honor Officer Shaw’s memory. It serves as a reminder of his dedication and helps keep alive the memory of his bravery. I keep thinking about his family, his wife, and two children, whose lives were undoubtedly changed forever. Sending thoughts and strength to them and to all families who endure such losses.
