I've been following the case of Cain Alvarez and his family, and something that really sticks with me is the pattern of calls to the sheriff's office about family violence. It's so frustrating and sad to think about these red flags that were raised but ultimately weren't enough to prevent this tragedy. I know hindsight is 20/20, but it just breaks my heart to think that perhaps more intervention could have saved this family. Domestic situations can be so complicated, and sometimes the resources and help just aren't there or aren't enough. I feel for the officers who have to handle these calls regularly—how they must feel when things take such a tragic turn like this. It's critical that we as a community start to find better ways to support families in crisis and address these warning signs before they spiral into something so devastating. My thoughts are with the friends, extended family, and neighbors who knew Cain and his family. No one should have to experience such a loss.
