I've been thinking a lot about the sergeant who tried to de-escalate the terrifying situation during the Fort Hood shooting. Timothy Owens' bravery is something that should be highlighted more. It's incredibly moving to know that he faced the shooter in an attempt to protect others. I've seen how valuable those split-second decisions can be in my own life, and it takes a truly selfless spirit to put others first like he did. It's so important that we remember and honor his actions. For anyone who served with him or knew him personally, I just want to say—you’re in my thoughts. I hope that sharing stories of his courage helps keep his spirit alive and offers some comfort to those who are mourning his loss.
