Spencer Paul Golvach, 25, of Spring Branch, Texas, was shot and killed on January 31, 2015, while stopped at a red light at 18th Street and Mangum Road in Houston. Authorities described the attack as a random act of violence.

The man identified as the shooter was Victor Reyes, 31, of Reynosa, Mexico. Reports say Reyes had already wounded another man in Jersey Village that night, later shot and killed 28-year-old Juan Garcia on Little York Road, and then engaged in a shootout with a Harris County sheriff’s deputy. After crashing his vehicle and exiting with a firearm, Reyes was fatally shot by the deputy when he refused to surrender.

Spencer was a musician and entrepreneur who played bass in the progressive rock band The Dead Revolt, which he formed with his younger brother Dylan and guitarist George Baba. He owned Spencer’s Guitar Shop in Cypress and worked full-time at a warehouse. His father, Dan Golvach, publicly criticized immigration enforcement after learning Reyes had been deported multiple times and had a criminal history.
