I’ve been thinking a lot about the moment Ahmed Al-Jumaili stepped outside to see snow for the first time. It’s the kind of awe-inspiring experience that stays with you forever. It’s unbelievably tragic that such an innocent moment of joy was so violently interrupted. I can't imagine what Zahraa and her family must have felt during that night and in the days that followed. It’s really gut-wrenching how Ahmed’s life was taken away by a random and senseless act of violence. This case really makes you think about how unpredictable life can be, and how important it is for communities to come together in the fight against gun violence. Hoping that by discussing Ahmed’s story, more attention is brought to the changes needed to prevent such tragedies from happening again. Does anyone know if there's been any lasting impact or change in the neighborhood since this incident? I feel like it's important for residents, immigrants or otherwise, to feel secure and welcomed in their own homes.
