I’ve been thinking a lot about how quick thinking and a tragic twist of fate played a huge role in this case. Imagine the fear and adrenaline that Yates' friend must have felt when the gun jammed, giving him that fleeting moment to escape. It’s haunting to consider how close they came to being another victim that day. It's astonishing how they were able to run for help under such terrifying circumstances. It's inspiring, though, to see the level of determination from law enforcement to bring Rios to justice years later. It really proves to everybody who knew and loved Michael that the system still strives to deliver justice, even if it takes time and crossing international borders. My heart goes out especially to the friend who had to endure not only witnessing such violence but also living with how narrowly they escaped that day. I hope they find some peace in knowing that justice might finally be served.
