Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking a lot about Damarcio White’s story and wanted to shed some light on something I feel isn't discussed enough: the impact of violence on young lives and the futures that are tragically cut short. Damarcio’s family shared how he had dreams of playing college football — just imagine the potential and opportunities that were stolen, not just from him, but from the entire community that might have benefited from his talents and kindness. It's just so hard to come to terms with the fact that a young man, who was described as a 'gentle giant,' had everything ahead of him and was taken away in such a violent manner. And seeing this happen further highlights why we need more resources and discussions around preventing gun violence, especially in communities where young people are trying to carve out their paths. Thinking of his family and especially his daughter, who will only know her father through stories and memories. How do we as a community wrap our arms around them and ensure they know they're not alone in this? Damarcio’s legacy should be more than just his death, but also about the love and dreams he had. Any thoughts on how we can better support families affected by such tragedies? Stay safe out there.

I've been following the case of Damarcio White since it happened, and I can still feel the shockwaves it sent through the Austin community. One thing that struck me when reading about him was how his family described him. "Gentle giant" and "teddy bear" are such powerful words, and I think they paint a vivid picture of what kind of person Damarcio was. It's just so senseless that his life was cut short over a fight. It makes me think about how deeply personal these conflicts can become and how quickly they can escalate into something catastrophic. I can't even begin to imagine the pain his family and friends have gone through, especially looking at his daughter growing up without him. It's a bittersweet type of legacy, knowing she carries his features and spirit but also a reminder of what was taken from them. My heart goes out to them, and I sincerely hope they're finding strength in each other as they continue to navigate life without him. It’s just a reminder of how important it is for communities to address issues like gun violence and anger management before they lead to such irreversible tragedy.
