I’ve been following the Michael Lee Pickering case for a while, and something that really puzzles me is the choice to hitchhike to San Francisco. I know it was more common back in the '70s, but even then, it was a risky mode of travel. I wonder if he hitched a ride with someone who had bad intentions, or maybe he planned on staying somewhere along the way? It seems like no one saw him after he left, and I find it strange that he didn’t leave behind any personal items or clues. Does anyone know if his nickname “Zappa” could point to a particular social circle or group that he might have been involved with back then? Maybe there are people from that time who haven’t been interviewed or remembered something new. Let’s hope one day someone comes forward with information that provides closure to his family after all these years. What do you guys think about how the nickname might factor into it?
I've been digging into missing person cases from the '70s, and the disappearance of Michael Lee Pickering caught my attention. I find it puzzling how such cases could just go cold for so long, especially with such a distinctive characteristic like Michael's deformed right ear. It's the kind of detail you'd think would make him more recognizable, and yet here we are, over five decades later, without any substantial leads. I wonder if there are similar cases from that era where the person just vanished into thin air while hitchhiking. Anyone else think there might be some larger pattern or risk in the hitchhiking culture back then that isn't widely covered?
