I can't stop thinking about the courage Edwin must have had when he heard the gunfire that day. It's just devastating to know that his intention was to protect his family, yet in an instant, his life was taken away. It’s these moments that make you reflect on how one simple act of bravery can turn into an unimaginable nightmare. What really hits home for me is learning how Edwin was just starting a new chapter in his life in San Antonio before visiting his family in Odessa. It's so sad that this promising future was stolen from him in such a cruel way. My thoughts are with Edwin’s sister, Eritizi, and the rest of his family as they navigate through this incredibly difficult time. It’s stories like Edwin's that should remind us all of the urgency in addressing the plague of gun violence. How tragic to lose someone so full of life, simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Just came across some photos from a vigil held shortly after the tragic events in Odessa, and it really touched me to see the community come together in such a profound way. Though I didn't know Edwin Peregrino personally, seeing the outpouring of love and support for him and the other victims makes it clear how cherished they all were. I heard his family was overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who showed up, lighting candles and sharing stories. It must be some comfort to know they're not alone in their grief. These acts of kindness, even small gestures, remind us of the strength inside communities when facing such unimaginable loss. Has anyone here attended any similar events that you'd like to talk about? Just wondering how these gatherings might help with healing, even if it's just a little.
