Paul Orneliues Wright, a 29-year-old African American man, was shot in the chest and died on October 27, 2019, at his home in the 700 block of Peggs Street in DeSoto, Texas. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a nearby hospital. The shooting occurred during a domestic dispute and Wright’s common-law wife, 40-year-old Tamara Lafrance, was arrested and charged with murder the same night.

Police say Lafrance admitted to shooting Wright and was found standing unarmed in front of a neighbor’s home when officers arrived. A neighbor had heard gunshots and saw Wright’s children come to her door for help; officers recovered at least one firearm at the scene. The DeSoto Police Department reviewed prior calls for service showing multiple responses to that location over the previous 18 months.

The children were taken into protective custody and described as safe. Reports say detectives have not established an exact motive. If anyone knew Paul Wright or has information about the events leading to that night, please share what you know with investigators.
