Has anyone else looked into the weather conditions on the day Laddie Schiess and the others went missing on Palisades Reservoir? Given how rough the waters were reported to be, I'm thinking there might have been some kind of sudden storm or unexpected weather change. Local reports from that time mention the water being frigid at 51 degrees, which seems unusually cold for late May. It makes me wonder if there were any forecasts that predicted the rough conditions, or if it caught everyone by surprise. It's also interesting that the boat had eight people aboard—was that overloading it, and could it have impacted their ability to stay afloat once it turned over? Would love to hear if anyone has more info on this or has come across similar cases where sudden weather played a key role in such incidents.

Has anyone else looked into the specific weather conditions on Palisades Reservoir the day Laddie Schiess and the others went missing? I did some digging, and it seems that the wind speed was unusually high, which might have contributed to the accident. It makes me wonder if more could have been done regarding warnings for boaters. Also, during that time in May, the water temperature being around 51 degrees is just brutal. Hypothermia can set in really quickly in those conditions. Given how many people were on that boat and how close they were to the shore, it's just tragic that more couldn't be done to save them. I'm curious if anyone has thoughts on what safety measures could have been implemented to prevent such a tragedy.

Does anyone have information on the water conditions of Palisades Reservoir around the time of Laddie Schiess's disappearance? I know the weather was rough on May 24, 1980, but I'm curious if anyone has insight into whether there had been similar incidents before this one or if locals were aware it was a particularly dangerous spot. It seems like a fair amount of people were on that boat considering the conditions, and I'm wondering if there's a history of accidents in that area of the reservoir. It's unusual that none of the bodies were ever recovered despite the seemingly proximity to the shore. Would love to hear from any locals or anyone with knowledge of boating incidents in the area!
