Hey everyone, I’ve been really fascinated (and puzzled!) by the whole Rev. Maurice "Doc" Dametz disappearance at Pike National Forest. It's strange, right? I've been wondering about the possibility that his disappearance might be linked to the local geography. Pike National Forest, with its dense woods and tricky terrain, could hide a lot of secrets. Is it possible that the unique geology of the area, where folks go rockhounding for topaz, could have played a part? The region is known for its Pikes Peak granite and other geological formations, so perhaps the ground was unstable or there could have been unmarked caves or pits that went unnoticed? Given Dametz's arthritis and limited mobility, it's plausible he could have stumbled into a concealed spot between those scenic landscapes. Also, considering how Rampart Range Road is quite remote and rugged, could there be areas that weren't thoroughly searched at the time? Even though it's been years, maybe these specific features of the landscape hold untold stories… Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on this! Could the land itself hold more clues than we've considered?

I've been pondering the role technology might have played in more recent years if it had been available back in 1981 when Reverend Dametz disappeared. Imagine if they had drones or thermal imaging tech we have today! I feel like these tools might’ve offered essential clues during the search efforts. It’s frustrating to think this case might have been entirely solvable with today’s technology. What do you all think about the advances in search and rescue technology, and have you seen similar cases finally getting resolved with these new tools recently?

I'm really intrigued by the mysterious disappearance of Reverend Maurice "Doc" Dametz. Something that hasn't been discussed much is the strange absence of his tools. When McSherry returned to the digging site, not only was Doc gone but so were the tools he was using. It's odd, given Doc's health issues, that he would've carried those away himself, especially considering how much assistance he needed just to traverse the area. Could someone have taken him and the tools? Or is it possible there was foul play involved from someone they knew and trusted? On top of that, were there any other hikers or rockhounds in the area that day who might have seen something? I feel like this aspect of the case is worth a deeper dive. It would be great if someone could shine more light on any possible sightings or details related to the missing tools—it's a piece of the puzzle that feels sorely overlooked.
