Steven Vasquez Flores was 16 when he was fatally shot inside a motel room at the Super 8 in the 200 block of Palisades Drive in Universal City, Texas, on August 11, 2020. The shooting happened about 4:30 a.m.; the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the cause of death a gunshot wound to the chest and the manner homicide.

Investigators detained four people in connection with the incident, including two who were minors. The probe found the shooting occurred while the teens were allegedly playing with a gun. Another 16-year-old at the scene was detained on suspicion of manslaughter. No charges or arrests have been announced, and the motive for the shooting remains unknown.
